Governorate of New Toledo
The Governorate of New Toledo was the territory granted by Charles V to Diego de Almagro in 1534, lying south of Francisco Pizarro's New Castile. Its vague northern boundary and the dispute over Cusco led to civil war between the conquerors and Almagro's execution in 1538. The New Laws of 1542 replaced it with the Viceroyalty of Peru.
