Itzamna
Itzamna was one of the principal gods of the Maya, a creator deity associated with the sky, writing, knowledge and healing, often shown as an old man. At the time of the Spanish conquest he was honoured at Izamal in northern Yucatán, a pilgrimage centre with great pyramids. Spanish friars such as Diego de Landa recorded his worship.
