Jahan Shah was ruler of the Qara Qoyunlu Turkoman confederation from 1438 to 1467, governing from Tabriz. At first a vassal of the Timurid Shah Rukh, he expanded his state after 1447 over Iraq, western and central Iran, and briefly took Herat in 1458. He wrote poetry in Turkic and Persian under the name Haqiqi, and the Blue Mosque of Tabriz dates from his reign. He was killed in 1467 by Uzun Hasan of the Aq Qoyunlu.
