Johann von Münchhausen
Johann von Münchhausen was a Livonian churchman of a Lower Saxon noble family who held the bishoprics of Ösel-Wiek and Courland. At the outbreak of the Livonian War in 1559 he sold both to Frederick II of Denmark and returned to Germany. The king passed them to his brother Magnus of Holstein, creating Danish rule on Saaremaa that lasted until 1645.
