Lhazang Khan

d. 1717 · 18th century · Also known as Lha-bzang Khan

Lhazang Khan was the last khan of the Khoshut Khanate that ruled Tibet. In 1705 he killed the regent Sangye Gyatso and deposed the Sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, who died on the way to China, making many Tibetans hostile to him. In 1717 the Dzungar Khanate invaded Tibet, took Lhasa and killed him, which led to the Qing intervention of 1720.
