Lower Burgundy

879–933 · 9th century · Also known as Kingdom of Provence, Cisjurane Burgundy

Lower Burgundy, or the Kingdom of Provence, was the kingdom founded in 879 when Boso of Vienne was elected king at Mantaille, covering the Rhône valley and Provence. His son Louis the Blind was crowned emperor in 901 but blinded in 905, and real power passed to Hugh of Arles. Around 933 its rights passed to Rudolf II of Upper Burgundy, uniting the two kingdoms into what became the Kingdom of Arles.
