Lydenburg
Lydenburg is a town in Mpumalanga, South Africa, founded in 1849 by Voortrekkers who left nearby Ohrigstad because of malaria. It was the capital of the small Lydenburg Republic from 1856 until it joined the South African Republic in 1860. Its Boer settlers negotiated land grants from the Swazi kings and were a factor in the politics of the region.
