Middle Assyrian Empire

Also known as Middle Assyrian

The Middle Assyrian Empire was the phase of Assyrian history that began when Ashur-uballit I asserted independence from Mitanni in the fourteenth century BCE. Assyria expanded across northern Mesopotamia and fought major rivals such as the Hittites and Babylon. It declined after the Late Bronze Age upheavals before the Neo-Assyrian revival.
