Middle Atlas
The Middle Atlas is a mountain range in central Morocco, part of the Atlas system, running north-east from the High Atlas towards the Taza gap. Its forested heights and plateaus, home largely to Amazigh (Berber) tribes, overlook the plains of Fez and Meknes. In the seventeenth century it was the base of the Dila'iyya brotherhood, which dominated much of northern Morocco after the Saadi collapse.
