Glossary · Term
Nobiin
Nobiin is a Nubian language spoken along the Nile in southern Egypt and northern Sudan, the language of the Fadicca and Mahas Nubians. It is the closest modern relative and probable descendant of Old Nubian, the written language of the medieval Christian kingdoms of Nubia, known from manuscripts and inscriptions of the 8th to 15th centuries. The flooding of Lower Nubia by Lake Nasser resettled many of its speakers.
