Ostrava

Ostrava is the third-largest city of the Czech Republic, on the Oder near the Polish border, where Moravia meets Czech Silesia. From the nineteenth century it grew into the centre of a major coalfield and of heavy industry around the Vítkovice ironworks. After coal mining in the city ended in 1994 it became the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Region.
