Phidias

c. 480–430 BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Pheidias

Phidias was an Athenian sculptor, regarded in antiquity as the greatest of the Greeks, who supervised the sculpture of the Parthenon under Pericles. His colossal gold and ivory statues of Athena Parthenos in the Parthenon and of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, are lost but known from ancient descriptions and copies.
