Ploiești
Ploiești is a city in southern Romania, north of Bucharest, at the centre of the Prahova oil region. From the late 19th century it became the hub of the Romanian oil industry, with refineries that made it one of Europe's main sources of petroleum. During the Second World War its refineries supplied Germany and were heavily bombed by the Allies, notably in the American raid of August 1943.
