Ptolemy of Mauretania

d. 40 CE · 1st century

Ptolemy of Mauretania was the last king of Mauretania, son of Juba II and Cleopatra Selene and a grandson of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. He ruled from about 23 CE as a Roman client king until the emperor Caligula summoned him to Rome and had him executed in 40 CE. A revolt led by his freedman Aedemon followed, and Claudius divided his kingdom into two provinces.
