Rajpramukh
Rajpramukh was the title of the head of a union of former princely states in the Republic of India between 1948 and 1956, an office comparable to a state governor. Each union, such as Rajasthan, Madhya Bharat, Saurashtra or the Patiala and East Punjab States Union, had one of its princes as Rajpramukh, who served alongside an elected government. The office was abolished in 1956, when the reorganisation of the states merged the unions into ordinary states.
