Sahibdin

fl. 1628–1655 · 17th century

Sahibdin was a Muslim painter at the court of Mewar in the mid-seventeenth century and the leading artist of the Udaipur school under Maharana Jagat Singh I. His works include a Ragamala series of 1628 and illustrated manuscripts of the Bhagavata Purana and the Ramayana, among them parts of the great Mewar Ramayana of the 1650s, whose bright colours and crowded narrative scenes defined classic Mewar painting.
