Sasanian conquest of Jerusalem

614 CE · 7th century · Part of the Byzantine–Sasanian War of 602–628

The Sasanian conquest of Jerusalem took place in 614 CE, when the city fell to the forces of Khosrow II under his general Shahrbaraz during the last great war between the Sasanian and Byzantine empires. The relic of the True Cross was carried off to Persia. Accounts of the Sasanian Empire cite the capture as a high point of Sasanian siege capability, though the Byzantines later recovered the city.
