Saud ibn Abd al-Aziz
Saud ibn Abd al-Aziz was ruler of the Emirate of Diriyah, the first Saudi state, from 1803 to 1814. As commander and then ruler he led the state to its greatest extent: his forces sacked Karbala in 1802, took Mecca in 1803 and Medina soon after, and raided Iraq, Syria and Oman. His conquest of the holy cities provoked the Ottoman-Egyptian campaigns that destroyed the state after his death.
