Scindias

The Scindias were a Maratha ruling family who became one of the most powerful houses of the Maratha Confederacy, later based at Gwalior. Along with the Holkars, Gaekwads and Bhonsles, they held large territories in northern and central India. Rivalry among these chiefs weakened central authority after 1740.
