Spinola family

The Spinola were one of the great noble families of Genoa, rivals and at times allies of the Doria, Fieschi and Grimaldi. Oberto Spinola shared power with Oberto Doria from 1270, and later Spinolas served as doges, bankers to the Spanish crown and generals. The best known, Ambrogio Spinola, commanded Spanish armies in the Low Countries in the early 17th century.
