Tiberias
Tiberias is a city on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. Founded by Herod Antipas around 19 CE and named after the emperor Tiberius, it became his capital and later a leading centre of Jewish scholarship, where much of the Jerusalem Talmud was compiled. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of the crusader Principality of Galilee.
