Ur-Nanshe

r. c. 2500 BCE · 26th century BCE · Also known as Ur-Nanshe of Lagash

Ur-Nanshe was the founder of the First Dynasty of Lagash in Sumer around 2500 BCE. His inscriptions record the building of temples and canals, and one notes that ships of Dilmun brought him timber from foreign lands. Carved limestone plaques from Girsu show him carrying a basket of earth for a temple foundation, surrounded by his family.
