Virunum

Virunum was the capital of the Roman province of Noricum, on the Zollfeld plain in Carinthia, Austria. It was founded under Emperor Claudius around 45 CE to replace the hilltop settlement on the Magdalensberg, and had a forum, temples and an amphitheatre. It declined in the late Roman period and was abandoned during the migrations of the 5th and 6th centuries.
