Zipaquirá

Zipaquirá is a town north of Bogotá in Cundinamarca, Colombia, built over large rock-salt deposits. Under the Muisca it was a major source of salt, a staple of their trade, and the Spanish continued to exploit its mines. It is known today for its Salt Cathedral, an underground church carved in the old mine galleries.
