Abu'l-Shawk Faris

r. 1011–1046 · 11th century

Abu'l-Shawk Faris was the leading ruler of the Annazid dynasty, Kurdish lords of the Zagros passes between Iraq and Iran, from 1011 to 1046. He extended their power from Hulwan to Dinavar and Kermanshah, playing the Buyids, Kakuyids and other neighbours against each other. Feuds within the family and the arrival of the Seljuks weakened the dynasty after his death.
