Augsburg

Augsburg is a city in Bavaria, southern Germany, and was a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire. In the sixteenth century it was home to the Fugger and Welser banking families, who financed emperors including Charles V. It also gave its name to the Peace of Augsburg of 1555, which allowed princes to choose between Lutheranism and Catholicism in their territories.
