Avungara
The Avungara are the ruling aristocratic clan of the Zande people of north-central Africa. From the 18th century Avungara princes led Zande expansion across the watershed of the Nile and Congo basins, founding many small kingdoms in what are now South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the 19th-century sultanates on the Mbomou river.
