Battle of Ulundi

1879 · 19th century · Part of the Anglo-Zulu War

The Battle of Ulundi, fought on 4 July 1879, was the last major battle of the Anglo-Zulu War. Lord Chelmsford's army, formed in a hollow square with artillery and Gatling guns, broke the Zulu attack near the royal kraal of Ulundi, which was then burned. The defeat ended the war, and King Cetshwayo was captured in August.
