Dardanus

In Greek mythology Dardanus was a son of Zeus and Electra, the founder of Dardania in the Troad and ancestor of the kings of Troy. Greek writers said he came to Asia from Arcadia or Samothrace, while an Italian tradition, followed by Virgil, made him a native of the Etruscan city of Corythus, usually identified with Cortona. Through him the Romans could present Aeneas's journey to Italy as a homecoming.
