Junnar

Junnar is a town in Pune district, Maharashtra, India, at the foot of the Western Ghats near the Naneghat pass. In the Satavahana and Kshaharata period it was a trading centre surrounded by more than two hundred rock-cut Buddhist caves, among the largest groups in India. The nearby hill fort of Shivneri was the birthplace of Shivaji, founder of the Maratha state.
