Lal Singh

d. 1866 · 19th century · Also known as Raja Lal Singh

Lal Singh was a courtier of the Sikh Empire, a favourite of the regent Maharani Jind Kaur, who became wazir (chief minister) in 1845. He commanded Sikh troops in the First Anglo-Sikh War and was widely accused of betraying them to the British. Kept in office after the war, he was dismissed and exiled in December 1846 for encouraging resistance in Kashmir to Gulab Singh, and died in British India.
