Omride dynasty

c. 885–841 BCE · 9th century BCE · Also known as House of Omri

The Omride dynasty was the royal house of the Kingdom of Israel founded by Omri around 885 BCE and destroyed by Jehu's coup around 841 BCE. Under Omri and Ahab Israel became a significant regional power, building Samaria as its capital, allying with Phoenicia and Judah and ruling Moab. Assyrian texts went on calling Israel the 'House of Omri' long after the dynasty fell.
