Qara Yusuf

d. 1420 · 15th century

Qara Yusuf was the leader of the Qara Qoyunlu Turkmen confederation from 1388 to 1420. Driven out by Timur, he returned after Timur's death, killed the Jalayirid sultan Ahmad in 1410 and took Tabriz and Baghdad, making the Qara Qoyunlu the leading power in Azerbaijan and Iraq. In 1409 he also ended Artuqid rule at Mardin.
