Red Turban Rebellion

c. 1351–1368 · 14th century

The Red Turban Rebellion was a series of uprisings against Mongol rule in China, beginning in 1351 under the influence of White Lotus millenarian beliefs and lasting to 1368. It spread across central China and produced competing warlords. One of them, Zhu Yuanzhang, defeated his rivals, drove out the Yuan Dynasty and founded the Ming Empire in 1368.
