Rouen
Rouen is a city on the Seine in northern France, historic capital of Normandy. As Rotomagus it was the chief town of the Gallic Veliocasses and a Roman river port. Granted with the surrounding land to the Viking leader Rollo in 911, it became the capital of the Duchy of Normandy and one of the largest towns of medieval Europe. Joan of Arc was tried and burned there in 1431, and its Gothic cathedral was painted many times by Monet.
