Taranchi
The Taranchi were the Uyghur farmers of the Ili valley in northern Xinjiang, descended from people of the Tarim basin oases moved there by the Dzungars and later the Qing to grow grain. In 1864 they rose against the Qing and formed a sultanate at Ghulja, which Russia occupied in 1871. Many moved to Russian Semirechye after the region was returned to China in 1881.
