Torstenson War

1643–1645 · 17th century · Part of the Thirty Years' War

The Torstenson War of 1643–1645 was a conflict between Sweden and Denmark-Norway within the Thirty Years' War, named after the Swedish general Lennart Torstensson, who invaded Jutland from Germany. Swedish forces also attacked Scania, and a Swedish-Dutch fleet destroyed much of the Danish fleet at Fehmarn in 1644. By the Treaty of Brömsebro Denmark ceded Gotland, Ösel, Jämtland and Härjedalen.
