Tungabhadra River
The Tungabhadra is a river of southern India, formed by the junction of the Tunga and Bhadra rivers in Karnataka, that flows north-east for about 530 km to join the Krishna in Andhra Pradesh. Vijayanagara (Hampi), the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, was built on its southern bank in the fourteenth century. The Raichur Doab between the Tungabhadra and the Krishna was long contested by Vijayanagara and the Deccan sultanates.
