Wends
Wends is a historical name used by Germans and others for Slavic peoples living near Germanic lands, especially between the Elbe and the Oder. The Chronicle of Fredegar applies it to the Slavs led by Samo in the 7th century, and in the Middle Ages it chiefly meant the Polabian Slavs, conquered and converted by German princes in the 12th century. The Sorbs of Lusatia are still sometimes called Wends.
