Werla

Werla was a royal palace (Pfalz) of the Ottonian kings on the Oker river near Schladen in Lower Saxony. Henry the Fowler took refuge there from a Magyar raid in 926 before agreeing a nine-year truce, and Otto I and his successors held assemblies there. It declined after the Salian kings favoured nearby Goslar, and excavations have uncovered its walls and buildings.
