Bure

Also known as Buré

Bure, or Buré, is a gold-bearing region on the upper Niger near the present-day border of Guinea and Mali. With Bambuk, it was one of the main sources of West African gold carried across the Sahara to Mediterranean markets. Control of the trade in its gold underpinned the wealth of the Ghana Empire, the Almoravid Empire and the Mali Empire.
