Comana Pontica
Comana Pontica was an ancient temple city on the Iris river (Yeşilırmak) in Pontus, near modern Tokat in Turkey. It was the seat of the goddess Ma, whose high priest ruled a large temple estate worked, according to Strabo, by more than 6,000 temple slaves. Under the Pontic kings and later Roman rule the priesthood was among the most prestigious offices in Anatolia.
