Gudu
Gudu is a settlement in north-western Nigeria to which Usman dan Fodio and his followers migrated in February 1804. The move was modelled on the Prophet Muhammad's hijra from Mecca to Medina. At Gudu his community elected him Commander of the Faithful, and the jihad launched from there led to the foundation of the Sokoto Caliphate.
