New Catalonia
New Catalonia is the name for the southern and western parts of Catalonia, around Tortosa, Lleida and Tarragona, conquered from the Muslims in the twelfth century, above all by Ramon Berenguer IV in 1148–49. It is contrasted with Old Catalonia, the earlier counties of the north-east.
