Perth, Scotland
Perth is a city in central Scotland on the River Tay, near the royal centre of Scone. A royal burgh from the 12th century, it was often the seat of the Scottish court and Parliament in the Middle Ages, and James I was murdered there in 1437. It was a leading trading burgh, and John Knox's sermon there in 1559 set off the riots that began the Scottish Reformation.
