Victory Stela of Piye

c. 727 BCE · 8th century BCE · Also known as Great Triumphal Stela of Piye

The Victory Stela of Piye is a granite stela set up at Jebel Barkal in Nubia by the Kushite king Piye around 727 BCE. Its long hieroglyphic text describes his campaign against Tefnakht of Sais and the rulers of Middle Egypt and the Delta, including the siege of Hermopolis, and their submission. It is the main source for Egypt's political fragmentation at the time and is now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
