Communism
Communism is the ideology of a classless, stateless society based on common ownership. Given its modern definition by Marx and Engels in 1848, it took power in Russia in 1917 and later ruled more than a third of the world’s population; its one-party states industrialised and spread literacy, but also carried out purges, famines and repression whose death toll is still debated.
