Decelean War

413–404 BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Ionian War · Part of the Peloponnesian War

The Decelean War, also called the Ionian War, was the final phase of the Peloponnesian War, from 413 to 404 BCE. On the advice of Alcibiades, Sparta fortified Decelea in Attica as a permanent base, cutting Athens off from its countryside and silver mines, while the war shifted to the Aegean with Persian money funding the Spartan fleet. It ended with Lysander's victory at Aegospotami and the surrender of Athens.
