Floods and natural disasters
Floods and natural disasters, such as river floods, failed Nile inundations and earthquakes, could devastate harvests, cities and state revenues. They contributed to the decline of the Yuan Dynasty, whose Yellow River floods sparked unrest, the Ming Empire, the Fatimid Caliphate during Egyptian famines, and the Portuguese Empire after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755.
