Ionians
The Ionians were one of the main groups of the ancient Greeks, speaking the Ionic dialect and living in Attica, Euboea, the Cyclades and, from about 1000 BCE, the central west coast of Asia Minor, known as Ionia. Their twelve cities there, including Miletus, Samos and Chios, formed the Ionian League. Ionia was the birthplace of Greek philosophy and science.
